So is this even supposed to work? Or is that model simply not designed for the purpose? I have seen this list (“List of Mac-bootable WD external drives”) – WD Elements is not listed there at all, neither in “bootable” nor in “non bootable”.

It does show up as startup volume when I restart with the alt key, and starts to boot as well (apple logo + progress bar) – but about halfway through, it just hangs forever. Formatting, creating the backup etc worked well the external disk also mounts just fine and seems to have no issues in general. It’s based on notebook class hard drive.I’d like a bootable clone of my laptop, so I went and bought a 1TB WD Elements yesterday.
